Attached Interview Transcript:
Host Yilin: Mr. Huang, we understand that you’ve been in computer-related professions since graduation. You started your career in Huaqiang North, which is renowned as the hub of China’s electronics and computer industry. It must have been great, but I know you’ve undergone quite a few transitions. Could you share this journey with us?
Mr. Huang: Since graduating in 1996, I’ve held three jobs in total, spanning 8 years, 11 years, and another 8 years respectively. Given my computer science background, I embarked on trading laptops in Huaqiang North upon graduation. Those first eight years marked the accumulation of my first fortune. As I’ve been exposed to the internet since 2001, I decided to switch from trading to fully devote myself to the internet in 2005. The platform I built was 51MB.com, also known as ZhuanMen, dedicated to discussions and exchanges among Thinkpad users. We had millions of registered users at that time.
Host Yilin: That’s quite a lot.
Mr. Huang: Yes, which means we had some reputation both domestically and internationally at that time.
Host Yilin: With the development of society and the economy, you quickly made an adjustment.
Mr. Huang: I entered the smart manufacturing industry in 2016, leading my team to focus on the development of intelligent feeding products and industry applications. Over time, on September 1st, 2023, I re-registered the company as Yige Intelligence. However, during this process, many friends initially joked that Ren Zhengfei, the head of Huawei, started his business at 43, and now, Brother Liangzhu, you’re 51. Where did you find the courage to start again?
Host Yilin: Are you someone who is always unwilling to stay in your comfort zone?
Mr. Huang: Because in my previous company, there were many ideas that couldn’t be realized, so doing it myself would be better. Most importantly, during these years in smart manufacturing, I personally participated in planning and implementing the replacement of manual labor with non-standard automated production lines, where I discovered the potential market for intelligent feeding. That’s the first point. The second is that Yige Intelligence has gathered a group of like-minded people who are dedicated to making this product better, more specialized, and more refined. Plus, with the support of my family, I dared to take this step.
Host Yilin: This is crucial. There’s a highly technical term, “Non-Standard Automation.” I believe many viewers, like me, are curious about what this concept entails.
Mr. Huang: In industry terms, Non-Standard Automation refers to the customization of an automated equipment to replace manual operations, adhering to the standards of manual production and assembly. This customized equipment is known as Non-Standard Automation Equipment.
Host Yilin: I see.
Mr. Huang: When multiple such Non-Standard Automation Equipments are interconnected to replace an entire manual production line, it’s referred to as a Non-Standard Automation Production Line.
Host Yilin: And what’s the primary focus of Yige Intelligence’s business currently, Mr. Huang?
Mr. Huang: The core business of Yige Intelligence revolves around the customization of intelligent feeding products of various specifications and functions for both Non-Standard Automation Equipment and Production Lines.
Host Yilin: Could you provide specifics?
Mr. Huang: Our feeding products, such as feeders, are designed to automate the material loading process that was previously done manually. These feeders are intelligent automation products equipped with a core control board, proprietary software, AI-enabled touchscreen interfaces, a comprehensive positioning system, and motor control systems.
Host Yilin: It sounds very advanced. So, what’s the current scale and position of your company in the industry?
Mr. Huang: Actually, Yige Intelligence was re-registered on September 1st, 2023, which coincides with the start of a new school year. For a company that’s just re-registered, it signifies a fresh start, a new beginning, and an exciting journey ahead.
Host Yilin: So, it’s relatively new in the market, then?
Mr. Huang: The smart feeding industry itself is relatively new, having emerged around 2016-2017. Previously, equipment manufacturers would often handle the feeding process internally, but they tended to make their systems quite bulky. Moreover, engineers focused on building entire production lines and machines would prioritize the overall structure and assembly, often neglecting the intricate details of smart feeding. This resulted in bottlenecks at the feeding stage. Our company, on the other hand, has a dedicated team solely focused on smart feeding. We provide solutions that ensure seamless integration and zero anomalies once installed.
Host Yilin: Actually, we understand that your company’s products are often exported overseas, is that correct?
Mr. Huang: Yes, that’s right. China is now leading the world in Non-Standard Automation Equipment and Production Lines. Two decades ago, China introduced the concept of Industry 4.0, and since then, it has nurtured a large number of outstanding smart manufacturing enterprises like Bozhong Precision, Crain, Saiteng Precision, Jieshide, and Lead Intelligent. These companies have delved deeply into every niche, pushing the boundaries of replacing manual labor with automation equipment. As Yige Intelligence specializes in intelligent feeding solutions, our feeding products are integrated into their automation equipment and shipped overseas to where they are needed.
Host Yilin: From what you just said, I can sense a strong sense of confidence in Chinese manufacturing on the global stage. Does such an industry or project require the participation of many technical personnel to achieve its goals?
Mr. Huang: Absolutely. At Yige Intelligence, we have a team where 30% of our engineers have over 15 years of experience in the automation industry, another 30% have around 10 years of experience, and the remaining 40% are recent graduates with 1-3 years of experience. This mix ensures a balanced and experienced workforce.
Host Yilin: Hmm, so what advice or expectations do you have for the younger generation?
Mr. Huang: Nowadays, young people may seem restless on the surface, but for companies like ours, we hope they can first calm down and excel at every small task they undertake. By doing so, the company will gradually entrust more important responsibilities to you based on your capabilities, and you will undergo a process of growth.
Host Yilin: Thank you, Mr. Huang, for sharing your unique insights on intelligent manufacturing and painting a bright future for Chinese manufacturing. Your words have filled us with pride in our great nation and inspired us all to contribute positively to building a modern China. Thank you for watching this episode, and we’ll see you in the next one!
